While recent discussion regarding the county’s future has included housing issues for the county’s retired residents, it appears that affordable housing is just as difficult for younger residents to find, many of whom are driven out of Rappahannock by a lack of housing and employment options.
Kven those who find work in the county are often forced to live elsewhere, said Beverly Atkins, rental agent for Sam Snead Realty, who agreed that frustrations are common among those looking to rent.
“It’s hard to find something affordable in this area. It happens all the time. People are selling their rental property or they are deciding to move back into their house. It’s a weekly thing. People are always coming to me,” Atkins said.
