the school year, Ostinato said the bookstore will be open weekends and holidays only, for at least the next year. Hours are tentatively set for Friday, Saturday and holidays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 12 noon to 5 p.m., beginning Friday.

Once reopened this weekend the store will retain many of its former elements, with the addition of numerous new books as well.

Ostinato said she spent the summer searching through auctions for rare books that may be of local interest, including poetry, classic novels, a series of cookbooks dating between 1930 and 1950 as well as books about the Blue Ridge Mountain people and their customs and history.

One book she found, which she is especially proud of, is a work from 1936 about a Blue Ridge evangelist and his experiences growing up in the area.

Ostinato said many such books will be added to the new store.

“Since it is an old church I would like to add more Christian books and inspirational books,” she said.
