Pete Estes carried off top honors last week at Powell Fort Valley 4-H camp by being elected Big Chief. Carlyle Lea presided over the Huron Indians’ pow-wow as one of the three lesser chiefs, each in charge of the activities of one tribe. Richard Racer, Jimmy Wayland and Dickie Walker were notch-cutters for the three tribes. Margie Dodson was cheerleader for tribe-two.
Joe Reid, with Carlyle Lea, John Turner, Newbill Miller and Hill Walker camped at Flint Hill Monday and Tuesday to fish.
Plans are running at a furious pace for the ceremonies accompanying the induction of the ladies into the offices of mayor and , town council of Washington next Friday, Sept. 1. The reception for visitors in the town is set to follow the induction ceremonies on the Courthouse lawn. A Square Dance will be held in the high school auditorium Friday night from 9 to 1 o’clock. Costumes will be cottons and blue jeans.
Typically feminine, of primary importance in the minds of the ladies-elect is “What shall I wear?" Husbands will tell you that the madam has informed them that cash must be forthcoming for a new frock—or frocks: “I simply have nothing to wear!” The men eryoy the teasing about this situation, but bets are hard to get that a single one of them got out of the situation of producing the needed cash. « \
