Mayor Gene Leggett was quoted as saying he hoped the courts would not “intervene” in the town’s government. This is alarming. We have courts precisely to decide if and when the executive or legislative branches of government have exceeded their constitutionally limited powers.
Mr. Leggett seems to believe that decisions of Washington’s Town Council ought not be subject to judicial review. Certainly, no one thinks the Town Council’s rulings are, or should be beyond the law.
