feel that some kind of tax increase or increases are needed, they may find themselves flying into the teeth of the storm. And if there is any feeling among Virginians in general that taxes should be raised, they were not reflected in referendums last year m Northern Virginia, where voters were asked if they wanted to increase the sales tax in those localities only for the purpose of transportation improvements.

In all cases, voters cast NO votes in large numbers.

There are some who argue that Virginians are undertaxed, when compared to residents of many other states, but that is far from a majority opinion.

And it will be hard for any advocates of tax increases to clear the huge hurdle any legislation to that effect would face in the House of Delegates.
