are becoming more and more of a rarity in Rappahannock. Between 1990 and 2000 the number of residents between the ages of 20 and 44 dropped from 2,491 to 2,099 while the number of residents between 45 and 64 climbed from 1,590 to 2,223. A mere 951 of the counties 6,983 residents were between the ages of 20 and 34 in 2000.
While many attribute these small numbers to the convenience of larger urban areas, some former residents feel this is not the only thing to blame. Former Rappahannock resident, 22-year-old Jessica Gheen currently works for a civilian contractor which assists the U. S. Department of Defense.
Gheen, who is preparing to move to a new apartment just outside Fredricksburg, agreed that housing in Rappahannock is hard to find.
