He hopes the male team will be able to make at least third in the district, one which he says is among the toughest in the state. Females on the team are no less talented, however there simply are not as many trying out, he said.
Thomas noted an overall decline in participation in the sport. While the team once had nearly 30 to 40 members, he said, it has dwindled in recent years to only 13 to 14 runners.
He attributes some of this decline to alterations which have been made to the fall sports schedule. Girl’s volleyball changed from a winter to fell sport this year, and football was also added to the mix. Both
