Rappahannock County High School’s golf team was already having its second match of the season on Aug. 13 while other teams settled in for their first week of practice.
According to Coach Jim Oyster the team saw defeat at this match as well as one which had taken place that Monday. This did not stifle his optimism however for the Panther’s golf team, now in its third season.
“We lost,” he said. “But we were missing two of our starters, so we did very well.”
Even when these starters are present Oyster is not preoccupied with victory, feeling that the team’s development is much more important than win-lose columns could ever be.
“I expect our sudcess this year to be in terms of developing our young players in the areas of golfing ability and sportsmanship,” he said.
This development is his main goal this season for the 20 athletes on his team.
