Timbers said the organization has already faced problems at the hands of the digital age. The last movie scheduled was publicized as “A Mighty Wind.” However, since this particular film had not yet been put into a 16mm format, the theater was instead sent “Chicago,” a movie which had been scheduled to show later in the month, she said.
RAAC also has encountered trouble in its attempts to acquire the film, “Bend It Like Beckham!”
“We’re dying to have this movie. We would love to project it, we just can’t,” Timbers said, explaining that the film is not going to be put into the 16mm format.
But a wider variety of movies is not the only way an updated system would benefit the organization. Timbers said a new digital system would also improve clarity and sound, as well as making the process of showing films easier.
“It’s a quality issue also,” she said. “If it were just one or the other we would probably jusj; deal with it.”
