Wrestling, according to history, did not begin as a sport over five thousand years ago— but as training for Greek and Roman soldiers.
That training is equally demanding today, requiring hours of physical conditioning and practice of moves and techniques that are quite strange to any other sport.
For three Rappahannock County High School wrestlers, that training has earned them the honor and privilege of traveling “down the road to Salem,” for State competition as they placed in the Region B tournament Saturday at Manassas Park High School.
Finishing third in the Region for Rapp was 145pounder Dos Allen and 152pounder Isaac Raney.
Panther Alex Sharp took fourth-place at 135-pounds.
Allen went into the regional tournament with a 36-3 record for the season.
In his first round of action, Allen faced Chatham High School’s Jonathan Byrd, pinning him 1:49.
