Local journalist and author James P. Gannon is about to publish a new book — one that is about the fast-paced, high-stress life that he lived as a prominent columnist and editor before retiring to a more relaxing life in Rappahannock County.

Gannon, who is known to many here as a bookstore, owner, a Civil War buff, a civic activist and occasional contributor to The Rappahannock News, lived a very different life before settling in the county in 1994. He wrote for The Wall Street Journal, was editor of Iowa’s largest daily newspaper,
