The Marketing and Entrepreneurship class is even lending a hand by putting together a brochure for the program and exploring different ways to market the harvested produce.
There are thirteen beds built on the high school grounds as well as a state of the art hot house generously donated by the Bill Young Memorial Foundation. Thanks to the Youngs, students still have plenty of work to do in the winter months.
Lending a hand
Once a week the class of 22 students visits Sunnyside Farms where they work in the hot houses with Sunnyside’s grower Nivardo Loya or out in the fields with Rito Garcia. Scheuerlein explained that it is a great balance, the farm gets the work of the students and the students get to learn how strenuous farming really is.
“It makes them value the food and lets then learn what a career in agriculture entails.”
