Sperryville business owners welcome two “new kids” on the block.
Attorney Kyra F. Howell has hung her shingle, so to speak, on Main Street.
Although the shingle is made of paper for now, Howell feels she has found a home for her new law practice.
Howell began practicing law in New York, an attorney for Prime Time 24, a satellite programming company and then moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked on Capitol Hill as assistant counsel for the telecommunication sub-committee for the House Committee.
Following that, she became legislative assistant for Frank Lautenberg, D-New Jersey.
Howell later became policy advisor in government relations with Powell, Goldstein, Frazer and Murphy, a law firm in Washington, D.C.
However, the highlight of Howell’^ career came when she wrote an article called Fishback’s Guide to Politics regarding the possibility of a tievote for the presidency and how the vote would be decided.
That article resulted in a position during the George Bush/Al Gore election for president in 2000 with MSNBC television as an expert commentator on political elections.
“That made me think about a career in television, but I really wanted a family instead,” said Howell.
Family is what has brought Howell to practice in Rappahannock County.
Three and one-half years ago, she and her husband, Steve Howell, began looking for houses while living in the Warrenton area.
“We loved Fauquier, but then we drove down Rt. 231 (in Rappahannock County) and that area is amazing,” Howell
