Concerned Town . of Washington residents filtered one-by-one into Tbwn Hall on Wednesday of last week until all seats were full, with approximately thirty gathered to hear a presentation by Herbert White, III.
White, the president of WW & Associates of Charlottesville, Va., has been hired by the Tbwn Council to engineer a new wastewater treatment system.
Also present were several members of council, including the mayor, Eugene Leggett, vice mayor Reinhardt Lynch, Jean Goodine, Claudia Mitchell, Jeff Benson and town attorney John Bennett.
Council members, as well as town residents, listened intently as White described a wastewater collection system similar to the treatment plant located in neighboring Sperryville, Va.
White proposed a grinder pump/low discharge system for various reasons, including low capital cost, minimal energy consumption and easy implementation.
At present, surveyors are looking at street alignments and are proposing locations of grinder pumps and pressure piping on individual lots within the town.
Pump stations will be located near property lines, at the low side of each lot.
Property owners will need to give right-of-way easements to the town for the pump station to be placed on their property. Another requirement of property owners would be to connect the system to their own private residence power supply.
Once the wastewater treatment facility is in place and functioning, septic tanks within the town would need to be disconnected and filled in with sand, by the landowners at their expense.
