The third graders of Sperryville Elementary School have been studying the use of telephones in their language classes. Equipment for this series of lessons was provided by the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Companies of Virginia with offices in Culpeper. The third grade saw a movie, “Party Line” and booklets entitled “The Telephone and How We Use It” were distributed to the class. Each child also received cut outs that were assembled to make a dial telephone. The class was provided a pair of telephones which plugged into a central unit containing a built-in amplifier and a loud speaker. The students were allowed to make practice calls, which were followed by a discussion of the uses of the telephone. Mrs. Betty Powers, school representative of the C & P Telephone Co. visited the third grade class to discuss with them what they had learned about using telephones. .
Mrs. Audrey G. Brown and Miss Carolyn Brown of Sperryville. Va., recently returned lrom a delightful cruise aboard the completely air-conditioned S. S. Bahama Star, to nearby Nassau, from Miami, with the ship docking right at Bay Street in quaint Nassau, making it eady to shop in the native straw market, swim at Nassau’s famed beaches, and enjoy Bahamian night life.
