School absenteeism has run high over the past two weeks as flu bugs made their yearly swing through Rappahannock.
“We had 149 youngsters out on one day last week,” reported elementary school principal Graham Spencer. He added that a number of teachers had also missed classes after catching the virus. High School absenteeism likewise has been running way above normal with 69 out from an enrollment of 450 on Feb. 20, according to assistant principal John Tbth.
Richard Pierson of Amissville belongs to the Brooke Johns fan club, a select group of three long-time admirers of the old vaudeville star. As vice-president of the club, Pierson will be on WJLA TV’s AM Washington show this Friday to present Johns with a resolution of appreciation.
Career Awareness Day was held for Girl Scouts on February 16 in Culpeper for girls from Rappahannock, Orange, Madison and Culpeper. They received ideas from professional people who advised them on selecting suitable careers and spoke of the education training requirements. From Rappahannock attending were Joseph Scherschel, Pat Helmer, Wendy and Debbie Helmer, Dawn Watson, Sharon Genebach Luke, Gwen Jordan and Janet DeRoo.
