But where are the bats, snakes, turtles and skinks? Where are the hummingbirds, wood thrushes, brown thrashers and Baltimore orioles (and Washington Senators or Nationals or whatever they’re going to be—another harbinger of spring!)? Where are the frogs? Where are the spring peepers?
Did you see the December 2004 article by David A. Fahrenthold in the Washington Post about the frozen frogs? It seems that many frogs (and spring peepers are among these) spend portions of the winter as green, frog-shaped icicles, and when it warms up they simply thaw
