Mount Vernon Farm in Sperryville is another location that the Farm to Table program has visited. Mount Vernon’s alternative methods of raising cattle have been very educational for the students.
“We try to explain to the children how to use animals to improve the grass and the soil. We really enjoyed having the class come to the farm," said owner Cliff Miller.
Water Penny Farm, nurseries in the surrounding area and even a golf course have been some of the places the class has visited in the hopes of expanding their horizons in the field of agriculture.
The students are evening learning to farm Christmas trees. While it takes seven years for the trees to mature the students will be beautifying the school and learning how' to prune trees in the process.
