The issue came up again on Feb. 18 when the Senate considered HB 2295. This bill, sponsored by Delegate L. Scott Lingamfelter, R-Woodbridge, would make it clear that cheese and other products produced on farms without stateregulated approval can be eaten by the farmers, their family and guests but cannot be sold.
Deeds offered an amendment that would have allowed goat farmers to sell the cheese they make.
The amendment said, “Any farmer who makes cheese on the farm from the milk of his own goats and sells it direct to the final consumer on that same farm shall be exempt from any and all regulations, provided that each individual cheese package is clearly labeled ‘NOT FOR RESALE, PRODUCED AT A FARM
