Rappahannock Cub Scout Pack 123 met last Saturday evening at the Rappahannock Elementaiy School cafeteria for their annual Blue and Gold Banquet. They gathered to celebrate the 75th birthday of Cub Scouts and to honor those scouts who had earned badges and other awards. “They will be getting awards so that they can move on to the next level of Cub Scouts,” said parent and unofficial assistant leader for Den No.4, Ken Estes.
Sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church of Washington, Va., Pack 123 is comprised of five dens: Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and Weblos 1 and 2. Boys start out as Tiger Cubs, earning badges and moving through the ranks until they become Weblos 2, the highest level in boy scouts.
Rev. Jennings Hobson remarked, “this particular pack will receive an award March 12, for 40 years of activity. That is a lot of kids and a lot of parent leadership.”
The evening began with a sumptuous potluck dinner. It was clear parents had out done themselves as the buffet table was decked with fried chicken, macaroni, salads and a host of other dishes—not to mention desserts.
After families had eaten their fill the evening’s entertainment unfolded. Each den performed a short skit much to the delight of the crowd. The wolves began with a history of cub scouting, as each scout read in
