Under the new zoning code, only the actual living space counts, so long as there is no direct access from the living space to the rest of the structure. Other changes in the code wording serve to clarify and simplify their interpretation.
County ceases
soil testing
McCarthy announced that as of January 1, 2006, the county health department will no longer go out and do soil testing for homeowners applying for permits for land distur bance. Rappahannock County, McCarthy said, has for some time been the only Virginia county providing that service. From now on. land and homeowners will need to arrange and pay for testing privately. For instance, if you are planning on building a house and putting in a septic field, you will have to arrange and finance the soil percolation test yourself. Landowners can contact the county health department for a list of licensed firms.
