Football: Panthers
kicked to curb
The RCHS Panther football team lost their September 3 home game against Page county 38-6. The Panther’s lone score came on a kick return by running back Bobby Czekaj. Panther punter Corey Hitt is currently injured, and while the team is trying some substitutes the team may be going for the conversion on some fourth downs. Injuries are becoming a big problem for a Panther team with only a thirty man roster.
“With everyone that gets hurt, the numbers are getting worse,” said Coach Kemp Pullin. “As football hangs around here longer, hopefully we’ll get some more guys.” The Panthers face Loudoun County High School in Leesburg,VA on September 16. “They’re all trying. We’re small in numbers but we’re going to give it our best shot” said Coach Pullin.
Volleyball: Panthers sweep tournament
The RCHS girl’s varsity volleyball team swept the 12th Annual Mountaineer Volleyball Classic Tournament in Madison, VA on September 10. The tournament is played in three-set matches,with the best of three winning the game. RCHS lost only their first set out of the four games they played, going on to win the tournament in a final against Fluvanna High School , the same team they had faced in the final in 2004. Coach Jared Nieters says teamwork is the Panther’s secret.
“The chemistry on this team is great. They deal well with being down, they don’t get mad at each other. Everybody on the team is a piece of the puzzle.” said the proud head coach. The Panther Volleyball team has a 7-0 record, and will face Luray High School on Tuesday September 13.
Cross Country:
Second out of four
The RCHS Panther cross country team came in second in a meet with three other schools at Broadway, Va on September 7. The Panthers faced Page County High School, Luray High School, and Broadway High School.
Page County won the meet with a combined score of 27, followed by RCHS with a 51, and the Luray and Broadway with scores of 58 and 91,
