• Foxfield Fall Races, Charlottesville. Sunday, Sept. 25. Post time 1:30 p.m. for the first of six races.

OK, think University of Virginia alumni luncheon meets frat bash following a Cavalier gridiron romp, and you’ve got the picture at the Barracks Road course. Foxfield hosts a spring meet which resembles a bar brawl or pub crawl, but the fall meet is more muted and far more focused on horse racing than wet T-shirts.

The card is varied — hurdles, timber and three flat races — and the hilly, left-handed course is testing with its quarter-mile uphill pull to the final two fences.

Admission options vary, too, with infield general admission (mind the Fnsbees) and outer rail picnic spaces (beside a healthy row of tent vendors). Details are at (434) 295-9501 or online at www.foxfieldraces.com.
