LrCC is currently working with Valley Regional Enterprises to secure, a used ambulance in which the EMT students can practice their skills.
“The EMT-Intermediate works with emergency patients and is able to utilize a broad scope of practices,” Medeiros said. “The intermediate EMT can read ECG’s, administer numerous drugs, start intravenous fluid therapy, place an intubation tube in the lung passages, apply a pacemaker to a heart and defibrillate patients in cardiac arrest.”
A curriculum advisory committee has worked with the Lord Fairfax EMS Council and the College to suggest topics and standards for the program. The committee included representatives of area hospitals, EMS agencies, medical directors and EMT instructors.
