When Wakefield Country Day School’s 2006 graduating class filed on stage for the ceremonies, graduate Ben Clark was surprised to see his father, Dan Clark, holding his diploma.
This was the beginning of a new tradition at Wakefield, as Ben received his diploma and congratulations from his father.
“We thought it would be very symbolic if we had his father pass on the diploma to his son,” said Head of School Kathleen Grove.
Dan Clark, Ben’s father, * graduated from Wakefield in 1983. He is the first Wakefield alumnus to have a child graduate from Wakefield.
Together Dan and Ben are now part of the growing group of Wakefield alumni, as the Flint Hill school enters its 34th year.
Dan now operates a surveying business which operates in a building that used to be an apple packing facility on property adjacent to the school.
“I remember walking over here to use the pay phone to call my mother when I was in school,” Dan mused on the front porch of his office building.
