Cloniger’s last known whereabouts.

“Why didn’t [the Sheriff] delegate the authority to a half way articulate person to answer questions from the public?” asked Franklin Schmidt of Woodville.

“It makes no sense for the Sheriff to have a full time public information officer. This was a high risk but very low frequency occurrence,” said County Administrator John McCarthy.

The problem has given rise to some criticism of the Sheriff’s office in the wake of the problem.

“If people had known, they could have taken their bikes out of their yards, and their keys out of their cars. You have to work smarter, not harder,” said Schmidt.

“I’ve heard one or two good suggestions for solutions,” said Sherertz, who has said that he feels his officers put forth their maximum effort in the hunt for Cloniger.
