Rae Gaedke Jr. held her first “painting party,” last Saturday morning, as Rae’s Place prepares for its rebirth in Sperryville.
Gaedke is renovating the old cafe building on Main Street. It used to house the Appetite Repair Shop; more recently the “Mountain Cafe.”
Gaedke purchased the building from the owner John Jenkins. “He only wanted to sell it as long as I was the one buying it, Gaedke said, “I wanted to buy it so I could completely renovate it.”
Volunteers showed up throughout the day, delighted to donate their time so that their beloved restaurant could come back in style.
“The village is coming together to help me start up again,” said Gaedke, as she swept the walls clean and then added, “It’s a community effort, an old fashioned bam raising type of thing.”
