Elmer “Monty” Cross and his wife, Robin, are devastated.
Last week, the Midland residents said, an area game warden and other members of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries confiscated and killed their miniature deer (called muntjacs), which they had been keeping as pets for the last three years.
Monty Cross explained that they are not only distraught over the death of their pets, however. He said they are furious about the circumstances that accompanied the execution of a search warrant and seizure of the animals at their home on June 27.
He added that they are so incensed by the conduct of the DGIF officers who executed the warrant that they have appealed not only to local authorities and elected officials, but to their state representatives, as well. If need be, he said, he will even' appeal to the governor to “permanently stop” what he called “the abuse of power exhibited by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.”
“We wanted to keep this private,” said Monty Cross. “But we’re not going to let it drop.”
