On July 5, the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors recognized the distinguished service of Coordinator of Emergency Management Colonel Dieter C. Knuepfer, who is retiring after 23 years of service to the county
“It wasn’t always fun, but it was always interesting,” said Col. Knuepfer, addressing the board and the public.
County administrator John McCarthy presented Knuepfer with an award certificate and a special trophy case “to hold the many awards you’ve received through out the years,” said McCarthy.
Knuepfer has been the Coordinator for Emergency Services for Rappahannock County since 1984, and also served as a Rappahannock County Magistrate beginning in 1985. His term of service saw Rappahannock County through many serious emergencies, including the extensive forest fires that ravaged Shenandoah National Park in 2000. Before moving to Rappahannock County in 1978 and becoming a public servant, Col. Knuepfer served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1974.
