brothers started the Studebaker wagon factory in South Bend in 1852. Another had gone west and built \yheelbarrows that he sold to the miner-forty-niners during the California Gold Rush. The latter made a bundle (eight grand) and returned east when the ‘rush’ turned to a trickle.
