Rappahannock men who serve as mentors to local boys through the Starfish Mentoring Program will host a barbecue on Sunday, July 23rd from 4-6 p.m. If you have ever considered mentoring a youth, now is the time to eiyoy an afternoon of conversation and food to answer questions and become familiar with the many benefits of this enriching experience.
Five boys, ages 7-9 years old, are waiting for caring, kind, fun loving, adults to join the ranks of the other 25 Starfish mentors. If you would like to eiyoy the company of a youth once a week for 2 to 3 hours and can make a commitment of at least one year, consider becoming a part of this growing national movement that has been proven to improve self-esteem, direct youth toward meaningful life skills, decrease the drug, alcohol, and school drop out rate, improve school attendance and open the door for future possibilities.
The Community Resource list that continues to grow offers local activity choices that include fishing, hiking, nature walks, library activities, llama farm visits, boating, free tennis lessons, and a European foi'ge visit.
