Living in rural Rappahannock County, Massie feels blessed. He recognizes that the very preventative “medicine” he offers to animals extends to their handlers, as well. The Virginia country lifestyle supports health and well-being, he said, for human as well as hooved residents.
He and wife Holly, Central High’s assistant principal, live with their two children on one of the Massie family farms; his commute to Rose Hill includes a single stop sign; the rare “traffic jam” on his route consists of a slow-moving tractor crossing the highway.
“When I started, I didn’t know where I wanted to be in the middle, but I knew where I wanted to die,” he said.
