July 15: Butterfly Day

RLEP’s Biodiversity Task Force is sponsoring a day of learning about our native butterflies Saturday, July 15, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Bruce and Susan Jones’ property at the base of Long Mountain. Shenandoah National Park Ranger Mary Willeford Bair will give a presentation on how to identify common native butterflies and lead a walk around their naturalized property to view the many butterflies that are attracted to the native plants there. Also learn about what to plant to attract butterflies and how to join the Rappahannock County Butterfly Count. Adults and children are invited. Admission is free, but reservations are required. July 15: Community Drum Circle

All are invited to join in creating rhythm and music on Saturday, July 15th from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at Sage (in the Rappahannock Wellness Center). No experience necessary. Group drumming is fun and has been proven to reduce stress. It can help stimulate coordination, cooperation, and greater listening skills. All ages welcome. Stream Buffer Workshop

RappFLOW Stream Buffer Workshop on Saturday, July 15th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Stream buffers are the areas of vegetation (trees, shrubs, and grass) along the stream banks. Keeping our rivers and streams healthy and maintaining diversity in our wildlife depends in part on the vitality of the stream buffers. Come join trainers Christina Loock, RappFLOW program director and Meghan Gloyd, RappFLOW Intern, to learn more about streams and buffers and how to assess them.
