Longtime Rappahannock County resident and community activist Hunt H. Harris has been caught up , in a Spotsylvania County armed robbery case.
Harris said he has no prior criminal convictions or accusa- * tdons. If that is true, the incident is either a shocking first offense for the 53-year-old man or a horrific case of mistaken identity:
If convicted, Harris could face up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500, said Spotsylvania County Sheriff Howard Smith.
As the word is getting out in the county, several community members are receiving the news with incredulity and have rallied to help Harris, setting up a Web site for tbe case and establishing a legal defense fund in his name.
Harris is accused of a robbery that took place at a Virginia ABC store on Oct. 26 in Fredericksburg. According to the Virginia ABC public affairs office, a white male entered the store in the Four-Mile Fork Shopping Center at about 8:15 p.m. with a black rifle bag that st'Wppeamd t* esiUain a firearm.— The man reportedly approached the store’s clerk and demanded all the cash in the register.
