Since then Rae has kept an eye open for a place to start again, as friends and fans of Rae’s Place mourned the loss of their favorite restaurant. In 2006, Rae bought investing interest in the building in Sperryville that once housed the Appetite Repair Shop and more recently the Mountain Cafe.
Tbgether with a team of friends and loyal former employees, Rae began heavily remodeling the building. “I would not have been able to start again without the help of Diane Noble,” she said gratefully, acknowledging her former manager. Tbgether with the aid of interior designer Paul Erlenbom, Rae turned the building into a unique restaurant decorated with artificial palm trees, bamboo wall hangings, multi colored floors, and excellent lighting. Local artist Davette Leonard painted the outside walls into a landscape mural.
