and will tend to wear out quickly. The fit of the outer fabric compares to the tailoring of a custom made piece of clothing. The important point of this is that the labor involved in preparing a piece for reupholstery is more work than manufacturing a new sofa or chair on an assembly line, which is how most upholstered pieces are made today. You may end up paying a lot for a re-make, so the integral quality of the furniture should be a major factor in your decision. If you feel you have a very good chair or sofa, you like the style (although minor changes can be made in the look when reupholstery is done), it sits comfortably, and it feels solid enough to live with for many more years, then your furniture is a good candidate for money well spent on labor and materials. If you have some doubts about the “pedigree” your furniture came with originally, you might save money by buying a new, well made piece.
