ing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce were served about 5 p.m. The ritual to passing of those huge turkey legs from child to child, each taking a bite, was performed with great fanfare! Pumpkin, chocolate, blueberry and lemon meringue pies appeared about 7:30 p.m. We all went home, exhausted, but thrilled with our day with the family.
2006 was different. My siblings live in California and Massachusetts. My son lives in Washington state and my daughter was with her in-laws. Every year Ray and I drive to our home town, Rome, NY, to have Thanksgiving with his large Polish family. This year, my Mom was to come with us. Unfortunately Mom fell and fractured a vertebra. She could not travel. Just getting from room to room is problematic. Ray went on to Rome and Mom and I stayed in Sperryville. At first we were both veiy sad. This is not what a holiday is
