performance breaking six school records this season.
Athletic director J.D. Almond spoke about the freshman football team since Coach John Neph left the team at the end of the season returning to his home state of Michigan. “They worked hard and put in a lot of long hours,” he said.
Aidan McCormick-Demolli was awarded the Coach’s Award and Taylor Yowell was awarded the MVP award.
Volleyball
Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Jared Nieters spoke highly of the Volleyball season which finished with a 24-4 record. Nieters noted that the team had surpassed many team records. The team had a 95 percent service accuracy and a total of 206 aces. Elvira Yanez had 641 assists and Elena Kritter scored 347 kills throughout the season. Yanez, a setter on the team, won the Coach’s award. Nieters noted that a setter never gets the spotlight but is crucial to a good game. Kritter received the MVP award. Nieters also acknowledged assistant coach Jackie Settle. “She was the second set of eyes that pointed out weaknesses in the game and was helpful in pointing out my own weaknesses,” he said.
Coach Susan Payne noted that her team started out with only one returning player. “We were a fresh team but we learned a lot and were very competitive,” Payne said. She gave the coach’s award to Addie Swindler, and awarded the MVP award to Morgan Stephens.
Coach Gerard Frank lauded the Junior Panther Volleyball team as the best in Rappahannock history. “Throughout the season I noted tremendous improvement,” Frank said. He noted that Emma Fisher shattered her right arm and still came to every practice and every game. Sierra Hagy received the Coach’s Award while Haley Hogan received the MVP award.
The Athletic department is now gearing up for winter sports as many of the star athletes of the school switch uniforms for the upcoming season.
