The Castle Trio brings music of Beethoven, Schubert, and Schumann to the Theatre at Washington, Virginia for a rare Sunday afternoon concert on December 3 at 3 p.m.
The members of the Trio, pianist Lambert Orkis, violinist Marilyn McDonald, and cellist Kenneth Slowik, have been performing together since 1984, giving concerts throughout this country and abroad. They have produced some fine recordings on period instruments.
The program for the concert at the Theatre includes Beethoven’s Trio in E-flat Major, Op. 44; Schubert’s Trio in B-flat Major, D898; and Schumann’s Trio in D Minor, Op. 63.
The Castle Trio’s concerts at the Smithsonian Institution draw capacity crowds, with many of their performances having been heard on National Public Radio, the BBC, and other international broadcasts. The BBC Record Review describes them as “a trio of real virtuoso players who savor the sonority of the old instruments and who play beautifully together”, and Fanfare Magazine simply calls their interpretations “fragrant, vital, altogether convincing music-making.”
The upcoming concert is part of the Smithsonian at Little Washington series, now in its fifteenth season at the Theatre.
