Rappahannock News Staff Writer
Parents, athletes, coaches and staff of the Rappahannock County High School filled the auditorium on Tuesday evening to recognize the athletes for the Fall 2006 season. “We have done well this fall in both individual and team performance,” said Athletic Director J.D. Almond. “This is the 3rd year in a row that teams in our school have advanced to a state level.”
Cross country
Cross Country coach Dave Gillis celebrated the improvement of the 1 team in 2006. “Our teams ran a combined amount of 9,000 miles and raised the bar for performance,” he said proudly. “We went from 17 to 33 runners.” He noted that the mens team went to the Region B competition this year sending two of their runners to the state championship. Josh Makela won the coaches award, as Gillis lauded his athletic spirit. “Josh was a noble athlete with high integrity” he said. He noted that Makela didn’t reveal that he was injured with shin splints towards the end of the season. Alex Ramey won
