The Blue Ridge Chorale of Culpeper, under the direction of Virginia M. Erwin, will bring a Christmas Celebration to The Theatre at Washington on Friday, December 8, at 8 p.m.
In the midst of your hectic holiday preparations, sit back, take a deep relaxing breath and settle in to enjoy the musical magic of the season.
The concert will open with a piano prelude, allowing our accompanist, Kathy Pellegreen, to shine as a soloist.
The Chorus will walk in to “Once in Royal David’s City” sung by a tenor soloist and accompanied by hand bells.
The program will include hymns from the Renaissance arranged by contemporary composers, English, Spanish and Austrian traditional carols, and two less familiar beautiful works by Randall Thompson and Franz Biebl.
After the intermission the audience will be invited to join the choir in some Christmas carols before we bring you such favorites as Ride on King Jesus, Sleigh Ride, a PDQ Bach song, Do You Hear What I Hear, and a joyful romp through the Twelve Days of Christmas.
Many of these works feature solo performances by our choristers.
In addition to the piano accompaniment, trumpeters, a percussionist, and a harpist will join the singers.
The Blue Ridge Chorale (previously known as the Culpeper-Piedmont Choral Society) has been bringing musical magic to this area for almost forty years.
Several years ago the Chorale presented performances of Handel’s Messiah at St. Peter’s Catholic Church to SRO audiences.
