Robert Douglas, of Orlean, said he was at the meeting to “express our displeasure that a utility could even consider desecrating lands that we have worked hard for years to ease and to protect. We have gone to great effort to protect this land in perpetuity, to keep it green and open and agricultural.”
Douglas has placed a conservation easement on his 40 acres, as have his neighbors on both sides. It is not clear whether eminent domain can be used by a private company to purchase protected land.
“A line of towers is not green and open,” Douglas said.
