Masters has been charged with vandalism and breaking and entering before.
In 2001, Masters and two other juveniles were convicted of similar crimes for destroying the interior of Montpelier, the 18th century mansion located near Sperryville.
The three did an estimated $200,000 worth of damage to the historic site. Lt. Smith was one of the lead investigators of that incident, and personally arrested Masters.
He is currently being held in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center awaiting direct indictment by a grand jury, in a court date set for January 8, 2007.
