In two years, Next Step, a Rappahannock County High School college and career access program has inspired youth to dream big about their future. They also discover the information and encouragement that will take them there.
These days, Next Step director Miranda Hope and her co-worker Lauren K. Ross are reminding Rappahannock High School seniors about deadlines; SAT deadlines, College application deadlines, scholarship application deadlines, all the while encouraging them to form a plan. “Our goal is to help them find the right plan for their future,” said director Miranda Hope.
Building futures
Together, the Next Step team offer a comfortable atmosphere that has Rappahannock County High School students stopping by to share their hopes and dreams. “I haven’t found out yet,” said one senior, as she swung by the office to update the team on her college application, “I should know sometime tomorrow by 3:00.”
As Ross helps another senior look at application requirements the excitement of opportunity fills the room. “A lot of high school aged kids think that there are barriers keeping them from college: psychological, financial, or academic,” Hope said, “I feel that it is my job to remove those barriers.”
