The second place had plenty of trees, but no one to sell one of those lovely trees to me, drat. Next on the list was a place that I knew sold trees, yet it was bare - why? Now I was running out of options. I had one hour to find a tree and no tree lot in sight. Then I happened to remember passing the flea market in Front Royal, who had trees. Trees!
I pulled into the parking lot dreading the notion that I may be out of luck...again. I parked and* got out the car, relieved to see two people tending the lot. The first tree I saw, I bought. It was perfect for the space in the Tavern! Cecil and his assistant (who I think was his daughter) held up the tree for me to see, carried it to my car and secured it with their own twine. It was an eight foot Blue Spruce, and it cost $45, no tax, no labor, just a fresh cut tree from Browntown with customer service heavy in tradition and pride. What a bargain!
And then I remembered: the hunt for the perfect tree shouldn’t be easy! It involves some luck and the right people coming together to make a dream happen. In a way it’s a miracle - which is what the holidays are all about!
So whether your tree be fresh cut, real (to be replanted) or synthetic, I hope this for you - gather ‘round it with your loved ones, enjoy the wonderment that it brings, wish upon its star and believe in the miracle of the season.
