James Lofton, 18, a former resident of Castleton and the grandson of Wilhelmina Price of Woodville, is one of four boys in Virginia out of 78 nationwide named last week to the 2006 All-America soccer team.
The selection was made by by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
“Nothing was given to James,” said German Peri, Lofton’s coach for the Braddock club in Northern Virginia. “He really worked for it. He is always trying to improve himself - on the field, in the weight room, with summer camps and training.”
Lofton is committed to playing on scholarship next year at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), ranked 15th in the nation in the most recent NSCAA poll of Division 1 soccer schools.
Lofton has played soccer on some kind of team - often more than one in the same season - since the summer of 1993, when he turned 5 years old.
