electrical systems. As the bed and breakfast grew from the original five guest rooms to the seven rooms it has today, it outgrew the B&B status determined by the state health department. Any lodging that has more than six bedrooms is classified as a country inn, which requires a restaurant license and a public well. So the Conyers House, still claiming to be the first bed and breakfast in Rappahannock, became a country inn.

Sandra said the Conyers House’s early success was launched by a Rappahannock News article in December of 1981. The article, which was written by then-editor Daphne Hutchinson, caught the attention of staff members at the Inn at Little Washington. Having no
