Double Cluster in Perseus the Hero. The Double Cluster is located about halfway between the W shape of Cassiopeia and the fishhook shape of Perseus. The Double Cluster is actually two separate star clusters: NGC 896 and 884. Both are about 7,000 light-years from Earth and are only a few hundred light-years apart.
In nearby Cassiopeia is NGC 7789. This cluster contains over 1,000 stars in an area roughly half the size of the full moon. Through binoculars this cluster is very easy to spot, showing a rich grouping of stars against the soft glow of the Milky Way.
Astronomers estimate this star cluster to be approximately 1.6 billion years old, making it one of the oldest star clusters visible. Also in Cassiopeia is NGC 457. This star cluster is especially good for beginners (like myself)
