Topsy, just grew. Sandra and her husband Norman, an executive with Aero-Maritime Investment Corporation, had focused on Pennsylvania and Maryland in their search for a country home. “Distance brought us out here,” Sandra said. Her family had a lake house in New Hampshire when she was a child, a 12-hour trip from home, and so she was accustomed to long drives. “We knew it would have to be at least two hours from Washington,” she said. By chance one Sunday, she happened to notice a little two-ling ad in the classified real estate listings. It read, “Lg house, Rappahannock County,” with a phone number. Sandra called the number and reached Dorothy Davis to inquire about the “log house.” “It’s not a log house, honey, it’s a laaarge house,” Mrs. Davis replied, imitating a thick southern accent. Sandra couldn’t find out just how large over the telephone, because Mrs. Davis insisted it depended on how the rooms were counted. So,
