The church is located on U. S. 211, just west of Route 229.
The church was established in 1974, and for the first seven years, the congregation met in the Amissville home of its first pastor, Clyde R. Woodard. In 1981, the church moved to its present building.
In 2001, Pastor Woodard, after 27 years of ministry, retired for health reasons. Albert Payne became pastor after Woodard’s retirement.
“We are a warm and friendly church that loves people. We especially love to have visitors,” said Payne. As an independent church, Maranatha Baptist does not belong to any national or regional organization. “God is our overseer,” Payne said.
Regular Sunday services include Sunday school at 10 a.m., morning worship at 11 a.m. and evening worship at 6:30 p.m. A mid-week prayer meeting and Bible study is held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
